We were lucky to rest between St. Petersburg and Munich at Europa Park. With a few days for we slept and drank and exercised and ate. It was necessary. The touring is no joke! On days off, we don’t eat (unless the hotel has free breakfast), and on show days we don’t sleep. It’s a strange and clearly unhealthy trade-off, but we are not rich and famous and have to take the cheapest (always earliest) flights and save money for gas/hotels/show costs (only eat free food).
We drove to Munich from Rust and the 6.5 hour drive along the autobahn seemed to go slowly as we stopped a few times. I picked up some crap souvenirs with the leftover cash from paying for the WC and even won a couple Euros in the slot machine. We arrived and had another minimal hotel stay and hit the beautiful venue-another former olympic hall.
In our experience with the German audiences, we learned that you have to win them over and earn respect. If you manage that, you will find loyal fans for a long time. It was a bit of that but the way we’ve planned our set, we hope to show an audience some exciting things early on so they feel ready to buy in to our music. There’s an art form in making a set list.
We bustled past some people as we got out late from the room to take photos, and after the crowds dissolved away, we walked back to the room. I got a free banana on the way from one of the nice vendors in the hall. We changed. We went back to the hotel. All-in-all it was a great show in a cool city with a huge crowd at an historic venue…just another day in the office!!
Next up, Berlin, where we meet up with a bevy of friends in one of my favorite cities all-time.
